Let me grow up

Let me grow up

I go to school by bus;
I make sure there’s no fuss
But, my mother has friends:
phew the lady can conjure friends from mid air!
So one sunny morning  we bump into a bus stop friend;
who looked at me from up to down, as if I were a giant cucumber  or a circus clown!
Upon finishing her inspection,
she asked me THE question;
that is more important than war and peace,
deeper than all the seas.
Wider than the fields, bigger than the farmer’s yields.
“ What do you want to be when you grow up? “ she asks, as I groan underneath.
Pop pop I hear the horn,
to me there’s no sweeter sound.
I look as if I might kiss my bus,
as I mumble good bye,
I think I hear my mother sigh.
My window seat beckons, time to think, I reckon.
There are days when I want to be an astronaut, clamber on the moon,
and discover new planets all too soon.
Can I be a rich tycoon with a private jet, an island and a Chevrolet?
I would be awfully busy, if I have to evade taxes artfully!
Some days I want to be a rock-star, with fire in my eyes and ice in my veins,
conquer the world with my guitar!
I want to cook up a storm;
some Macaroni and stromboli, a chef like Gordon Ramsay
who cooks with glee and curses for free!
Some days I want to be an Architect, design dreams and bridge the gap.
No Street kid will then roam, for he too shall have a home.
I have more days though when I just want to be a grown up-
Who lounges on the bed with his tablet all day
Who plays Minecraft and Clash of the clans
Who thinks a lot: what shall I have for dinner, lunch and breakfast are his grand plans.
Wonder what they call such a guy, he is the one I want to be like.

So please don’t ask me this question now, I only want to be the best of me.
